About the Firm
John Morgan Thomas Landscape Architects is located in Lambertville, New Jersey, along the Delaware River and nearly midway between Philadelphia and New York. Our design and consulting practice is focused on artful and environmentally responsible landscape architectural solutions at a variety of scales, specifically tailored to our clients' needs.
Our clients range from private homeowners to municipalities and institutions. The scale of the projects on which we work is diverse—from intimate garden spaces to large private estates, and institutional landscapes to public park master plans. This diversity is possible because of our familiarity with the region and our strong relationships with other design professionals.
Our staff is experienced and accomplished. The small size of the firm allows for the kind of hands on approach that we believe is essential to successful projects. The principal is directly involved in the design process in all projects and is always available to the client as a resource as the project is implemented.
We believe that to have a successful project, the landscape architect needs be in the field, not just the office. We insist on field visits in our residential and municipal review work and are actively engaged with contractors during the construction process. Field reconnaissance prior to design is essential in understanding the natural, cultural, and visual characteristics of the land. Adapting the design to site conditions and client needs during the construction process results in the highest quality designs.
Our extensive familiarity with plant species enables us to know which plantings will thrive on a given site. Understanding both the horticultural and aesthetic attributes of native and non-native plant species is essential to the success of our projects. Our preference for proven high-quality building materials also contributes to the longevity and beauty of a design.
We approach sustainability in a very practical light; designs that incorporate appropriate plants and quality materials result in long-lasting landscapes of true value. Sustainability also involves a design process which accepts the realities of maintenance, in order to ensure that our landscapes can be sustained within our clients’ expectations and resources.
